Facade systems

Inside a building the human being has two different needs – a pleasant ambient climate and sufficient lighting. Natural daylight is felt much more pleasant than artificial lighting. But in the past realization of both needs was only achievable by applying artificial lighting, due to the fact that light elements had a far lower thermal insulation than the usual brickwork. On top of that traditional glass elements quickly reach their limits of stability in terms of size.

Nowadays translucent façade systems made of polycarbonate multi-wall panels transform buildings into light-flooded rooms. And in this they are not only fulfilling the need of natural lighting. With U-values of up to 1.1 W/m²k (in comparison: lime-sand brick 1.44 – 2.19 W/m²k) the values even undercut the ones of the conventional brickwork. A further significant step towards a higher thermal insulation value und therefore a better ecological use can be achieved when filling the panels with the silicate Lumira® aerogel, which gives the light elements a thermal insulation value of up to 0.54  W/m²k.

Since the 600 mm wide and up to 6 m long elements are connected via a click-system, the supporting construction is reduced to a minimum. A vast range of profiles and border elements add to turn these façade systems into a fully functional and attractive concept.

  • high light transmission of up to 65% enabling a natural lighting of 2,300 luces (on a cloudy winter day) and up to 65,000 luces (on a sunny summer’s day) on average.
  • intense light scattering (when filled with Lumira®) providing for a glare and shadow-free ambient lighting.
  • high U-value (up to 0,54 W/m²k with Lumira®)
  • high noise reduction value of 22 dB (filled with Lumira® + 3 dB)
  • fire classification B-s1, d 0 pursuant to EN13501
  • effective UV protection of panels by co-extrusion
  • only minimal supporting construction necessary thanks to click-system 
  • very low in weight, self-supporting façade system
  • weathering-resistant  (UV) and hailstorm-proof as per manufacturer’s specification 

Module system 626 / 623

The module system 626 consists of co-extruded sixfold polycarbonate twin-wall panels, which are laterally connected to profiles made of steal or aluminium. The product features a thick exterior skin of 1 mm and a UV-protective film. When filled with Lumira™Aerogel a threefold twin-wall panel is used with the name module 623.

The following two pictures illustrate the logical concept of the modular system. The left picture shows the aluminium U-shaped profile in detail, which provides the rest for the panels together with the reinforced aluminium profile for connecting two elements, the rest plate and the gasket strip. The right picture illustrates the integration of the polycarbonate corner profile via the aluminium corner profile.

Module 547 / 543

The click system 547 is a modular system made of co-extruded 40 mm sevenfold polycarbonate twin-wall panels. When filled with the silicate Lumira™Aerogel a threefold twin-wall panel is used with the name module 543.

In line with a proceeding referring to the general technical approval a drafting of an expert’s report on the assessment of the bearing capacity and usability of the skylight system is on hand. (Nº 93/07.G).

Condensation

Polycarbonate is a hygroscopic material which allows migration of vapour through the material. Occassional condensation within the panels depending on the temperature and the humidity inside and outside the building cannot be totally avoided and does not affect the quality of the product.
